The British Norwegian Chamber of Commerce would like to invite you to attend our joint event with Tekna and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers ( Scandinavia Group) focusing on the Bloodhound project, which is a great example of British-Norwegian innovation.
The Bloodhound is:
- A Super-Sonic Car designed to achieve speeds over 1600KPH
- Powered by a Eurofighter Jet engine and two Norwegian rocket motors
- Runway tested in 2017, proving the design to over 320KPH
The current world land speed record is held by Andy Green at 763 MPH (1228 KPH) in the Thrust SSC achieved in the USA in October 1997. A new project - Bloodhound SSC with same driver, aims to beat this record by nearly 400KPH reaching over 1000MPH, at Hakskeen Pan in South Africa in 2019.
Mark Chapman, the projects Engineering Director will describe the project and explain the key engineering and project management challenges the team is facing. He will explain why the two Nammo rocket motors were chosen to accelerate the car above the speed of sound. He will also outline the projects philosophy of incremental testing as the demands on the car and driver are progressively increased allowing the design to be adjusted while fully meeting safety requirements.
The project has created enormous interest worldwide and is highly active with young people, inspiring the next generation of Engineers and Scientists.
