New UK Industrial Strategy: What It Means for Norwegian Business
On 23 June, the UK government launched its new 10-year Industrial Strategy, setting out a bold vision to boost investment, innovation, and sustainable growth.
The plan focuses on 8 sectors where the UK is already strong and there’s potential for faster growth: Advanced Manufacturing, Clean Energy Industries, Creative Industries, Defence, Digital and Technologies, Financial Services, Life Sciences, and Professional and Business Services.
For Norwegian companies with interests in the UK- or ambitions to enter the market – this strategy presents an opportunity. In a LinkedIn post marking the announcement, British Ambassador to Norway, Jan Thompson, explained the strategy’s potential relevance to Norwegian business, noting that it will make doing business quicker, easier and more profitable:
- Speeding up decisions by removing red tape
- Creating further opportunities for existing partnerships
- Boosting innovation through world-leading tech
- Delivering predictability through openness and stability, and
- Reinforcing the UK as a gateway market for Norwegian scale-up businesses.
This strategy reinforces the UK’s position as a reliable and attractive market for trade, investment, and R&D collaboration.
As part of its mission to support cross-border business, the BNCC will explore how this strategy can open doors for its members and continue to facilitate dialogue between stakeholders on both sides of the North Sea.
