A Strategic Partnership Built on Shared Values and Economic Opportunity

The United Kingdom and Norway enjoy one of Europe’s most enduring and forward-looking bilateral relationships — rooted in shared history, mutual values, and deep economic ties.

From Viking trade routes to today’s cutting-edge collaborations in energy, defence, and technology, this partnership continues to grow in strategic importance.

A Strong and Evolving Trading Partnership

The UK is one of Norway’s largest export markets, while Norway remains a vital supplier of energy and raw materials to the UK economy.

Through the UK-Norway Free Trade Agreement, implemented post-Brexit, businesses on both sides benefit from tariff-free trade on goods, market access for services, and cooperation on digital trade, fisheries, and sustainability.

Key sectors include:

  • Energy & renewables – from North Sea oil and gas to offshore wind collaboration
  • Technology & digital services – smart solutions, AI and cross-border innovation
  • Defence & aerospace – enhanced cooperation through NATO and industry partnerships
  • Food & agriculture – high-quality Norwegian exports to British retailers and restaurants.

The BNCC plays a vital role in supporting businesses navigating this framework, helping members identify opportunities and make strategic cross-border connections.

Strategic security cooperation

As close NATO allies, the UK and Norway work side by side on defence, Arctic security, and cyber resilience – reinforcing stability in Northern Europe and the North Atlantic.

Recent high-level meetings — including between defence ministers in Kirkenes in 2025 — signal growing alignment on strategic defence goals.

Looking Ahead: Collaboration for a New Era

The UK and Norway are working to deepen cooperation across the green transition, defence, automated manufacturing and more. As both nations invest in sustainable growth, the Chamber's role is to foster meaningful partnerships that turn this potential into lasting impact.

At BNCC, we are proud to champion this vital relationship, supporting our members, shaping dialogue, and strengthening the enduring ties between British and Norwegian business and society.
